OKTO35 Mk3
Bringing the OKTO35 Mk3 camera to life is in full swing. This will be a new and improved version with parts/cost optimization and ready for the first beta testers.
What is there to expect from the new OKTO35 Mk3 camera?
In addition to OKTO35 Mk2’s specs, there should also be:
- optical TTL viewfinder with ground glass for focus and framing check
- side optical viewfinder with OLED framing and information-assisted overlay
- enlarged dual gate exposure size in 4:3 (6.3×4.7 mm) and 16:9 (8.4×4.7 mm)
- crystal-sync speed framerate 1 – 25 FPS
- electronically variable shutter angle 90 – 180°
- possibility of an external film magazine for increased shooting time
- frame-by-frame sync scanning via DSLR/Mirrorless and smartphone camera
- larger C-mount lens support
- new and more precise frame advance system for reduced gate weave effect
- reduction in film track in-between bleed-out effect
- reduction in camera’s running noise
- battery charging and firmware update via USB-C connector
- user replaceable internal 18650 rechargeable battery

Please be aware that some progress updates can take longer to appear due to project development challenges and life unpredictability. At the end of the day, I’m only a human.

This is pretty awesome. Have you considered a version where you replace like 90-100% of the electronics with a crank (and I guess manual track shift), a la lomokino but way better?

Having it without the electronics and motors with a direct crank linkage would be a whole different beast to conquer.
However, for the upcoming Mk3, there is a non-zero chance of having a hand crank function. Similar to a Lomokino, but way better.

This project is simply the amazing, and I was wondering if you could share a list of materials alomg with the 3D files, because even though it does look like a deeply complicated project, I would like to do this for my science fair this year, of course crediting you for the idea.

The project is currently closed sourced type. But there is a chance of releasing some DIY files in the future.
The camera is/will be a very complex design with high-density electronics, sensors, and motors, with tight tolerances 3D design that is needed for overall good image quality.

A couple of questions…
What is the total run time of the 35mm roll?
Will you be doing a Kickstarter campaign?
Will you be selling a complete and fully built camera?
You mention crystal sync, does that mean users will be able to shoot synchronized sound with the right equipment?-
The total runtime is 1min and 7sec @18fps on one 36-exposure 35mm roll.
There is a big possibility on a such campaign in a form of fully built camera.
Yes, the Mk3 version will have crystal sync capability on all FPS range. Sync sound recording should be possible.-
Is there seamless transition between the 4 different “lanes” of exposure, or should you time your shots to more close to 4 times 15-16 seconds?

There is and will be a transition period between 4 different tracks, sadly it can’t be avoided.
But I’m aiming for the shortest period possible, somewhere around 1-2 seconds.
In a sense, almost a seamless transition.
